About

This workshop is developed from human movement, for people who like and need to move beyond what is usual or everyday. Our body is made of memory, but throughout our lives we are getting used to repeating the same principles and forgetting our First Body, the body of the human being, which allows us innumerable possibilities, the body of the baby playing on the carpet, the primitive body , the body-voice-mind elastic and creative. In this work we seek to develop and enhance kinaesthetic body intelligence, making the body more sensitive to the external and internal concrete stimuli so that the actor / performer can react in real time and create from the movement singular qualities of corporality, orality and interiority. This physical intelligence includes abilities of coordination, balance, speed, strength, dexterity, precision and attention. The importance of balance and harmony between logical and bodily consciousness is fundamental to the development of this premise. It is about trusting the tactile and human movement mechanisms to achieve greater awareness of ourselves, knowing that our body is the primary tool for creation. One of our goals is therefore to bridge the gap between thought and action by putting the performer real-time, reacting to the inner stimuli that can be generated by outer stimuli deconstructing the idea of body and mind as isolated things. For this we need to think with the whole body. The work of sensitising the body through concrete sensations allows us to express ideas and feelings through the body, thus creating potential materials for the development of scores, scenes and characters.

In theatre/performance everything we need to create is in us, our body in relation to time and space. Based on research conducted in Brazil and Europe over the last ten years, First Body is an invitation to think with the whole body. Exercises inspired by techniques and concepts learned and shared are developed at the Grotowski Institute of Poland, at the O Bando Theatre in Portugal, at the performance and Arts course at Edinburgh University, at the Workcenter of Grotowski and Thomas Richards in Italy. This workshop has already covered the cities of Berlin (Germany), Lisbon (Portugal), Maputo (Mozambique), Salvador, São Paulo, Blumenau, Fortaleza and Brasília (Brazil) in search of improvement and sharing. For us there is no model to be repeated or copied, we try to understand human movement as an independent creative possibility, where each participant finds the possibilities and barriers of this somatic framework in order to overcome its limits to find new paths.
